Match Report

Oxshott 4-0 Stoneleigh, 27 Jan

On the way there we were confident but on the way back though it was a completely different story

We arrived at Oxshott at around 9:30 (well, most of us). The Stoneleigh squad wanted the game to start to try and get the double over Oxshott who were beaten last time out due to an Ernie goal. Carlos and Neil set up a new drill for the players to try and it seemed to work in the warm up. A few minutes later the referee was blowing his whistle to signal the start of the game.

The first ten to fifteen minutes started as all of the last few have. Stoneleigh showing threat every time they had the ball. Our now legendary attacking trio of Aidan, Lucas and Dusan where working tirelessly up front with Aidan skilling up the poor Oxshott left back, Dusan’s head connecting perfectly to a corner only for it to go agonisingly close and Lucas having a shot which went just over the bar (which this time weren’t bent). Hannah was our right winger she was running up and down the line at every opportunity and it was working. Billy and George where are stubborn centre backs who where the definition of  no-nonsense. Of course Casper was our goalkeeper and he was catching crosses and dealing with any loose balls. Jack, Ewan and Ernie where in the dugout raring to come on. Alex was our payer being rested and I’m sure he was following the game on Talk Sport while playing on the Xbox. The first half was a bit dull after that with Stoneleigh probably edging the game before a slick counter attack from Oxshott resulted in a free kick which was converted to give Oxshott a undeserved lead. A few minutes later the Stoneleigh defence switched off for a few seconds which resulted in a second Oxshott goal. That’s pretty much how the first half ended.

The team talk given by the Oxshott manager was obvious on the pitch. Park the bus Mourinho-style. Our subs had come on and were all looking for one thing -a goal. Jack was dribbling around everyone and constantly pressing the backline . Ewan was brought on to sit in front of the defence and take no prisoners and he did that. Ernie was taking on his man and crossing for AH9 which was nearly successful but unfortunately Oxshott’s keeper was on fire. After Stoneleigh domination, Oxshott added a third which was completely against the run of play. Oxshott were hungry for more but a few wonderful saves from Casper kept them at bay. The game was just not going Stoneleigh’s way and to add to that was the free-kick business .The ball was played to Aidan whose shot hit an Oxshott’s   defenders hand INSIDE the box. The ref gave a free kick without going to the VAR . The resulting free kick was smashed by Aidan but unluckily it hit an Oxshott head (arm?) on the line. A late goal from Oxshott’s striker added to the pain but our heroes tried and unfortunately it was just one of those games

Players of note: Billy and Jack
