Stoneleigh 0-2 Nork Park
Right then, let’s get started on a new blog.
As we trundled into Auriol Park with the temperature about -100 Celsius we all knew it was going to be tough - one with the mud bath on the pitch and two with the cold. Our previous encounters had included a win and a very angry manager. Luckily today it was a different man but he was still pretty aggressive. Anyway as we watched our heroes go into the changing room for an inspirational team talk given by the unbeatable force of Carlos and Neil we wondered how we’d cope without Dusan today. After about twenty minutes they jogged back out looking ready. After a warm up where Casper got about half the pitch of mud on his kit, they were ready
The game started as everyone expected with Stoneleigh on top in every position. Lucas was playing in the centre driving forward at every opportunity and sending Aidan through many times. Ewan our centre defensive midfielder was calm and composed with every ball that came to him. Billy was supporting Hannah to dominate on the wing, Aidan was constantly attacking the Nork Park backline and George was menacing at the back stopping any chance of an attack. If the ball did go past George, Casper was alert and picked up the pieces .After a good ten minutes where Stoneleigh had dominated the game became more open and forced the first chance of the game which Aidan put into the gloves of the keeper. Unfortunately a great counter attack by Nork Park ended up in a goal which was not deserved. After that the most exciting bit of the game took place. An almighty goalmouth scramble happened, which ended up with Billy and the post becoming heroes. First a great through ball was expertly saved by a diving Casper, next a shot which Billy hammered of the line and finally a bouncing ball hit the post and back into the green gloves of Casper. Just before half time Lucas powered in a shot which flew just over the crossbar.
The second half introduced Alex and Ernie, who both battled so well. The first 10 minutes of the second half was all the hosts with Lucas firing shots just wide. Then Alex came on and he got stuck in, all of his bones where moving at 100 mph. Alex played in centre midfield and reminded us of a young N’golo Kante. Ernie gave us all a treat to watch with his awareness of and on the ball being displayed .Then we saw the move of the game AH9 skilled up four Nork Park players before his shot was blocked by the big, green , number 5. Jack who played on the wing was putting in a blood sweat and tears performance and came close to scoring after his corner hit the post. Finally, Nork Park added a second which no keeper, yes even Casper could save
After the game Carlos said that they had the chances and the attack and defence were good but they need to release the ball a bit quicker. There is always space for improvement.
Players of note: Lucas and Aidan
